Buying a car is half the battle. It needs to be “fed” with fuel, maintained, repaired and protected from outside attacks. In a word – to cherish and cherish. But if everything with technical maintenance is, in principle, clear, then with car protection, not everything is so obvious. It just so happens that a car, designed to protect us from rain, sun, wind, dirt and dust, itself needs protection. From what? Just from all of the above. And not only. One of the key factors affecting the safety of a car is the place where it is stored. Each of the possible locations, as it turns out, has its own significant pros and cons.

1. Parked in the yard. What to hide – most cars are ingenuously waiting for their owners in courtyard parking lots. I arrived, parked the car, and a couple of minutes later went into the apartment – very convenient. And most importantly – it’s free. And it also seems quite safe. After all, you can control the car at least every ten minutes. Just look out the window. But in reality, such control is nothing more than an illusion of security. It will not be difficult for car thieves to break into a car left at the entrance under the cover of darkness.

There is no need to talk about complete protection of the car even during daylight hours. Children and teenagers with balls, scooters and bicycles playing nearby can easily scratch a car without any malicious intent. There are also plenty of retired grandmothers in our yards who don’t like cars running in the morning. Probably everyone has heard at least once about how much sweet-looking old ladies can do a lot of mischief. And our yards are full of cats, dogs and feathered creatures. Accordingly, not a single car standing under the window is insured against bird droppings and clawed paws. And the worst thing is that in this case there is no one to make a claim at all.

2. In a guarded parking lot. There are plenty of guarded parking lots in cities. Most often, you can walk to one of them in 10-15 minutes. Car enthusiasts who are not eager to look out the window every hour and look in horror at the children playing nearby are quite happy with this option. Petty thieves and dirty tricks are also not allowed to enter the closed protected area. Although, as for professional car thieves, a gazebo with a watchman and an often open barrier will not stop them. So if someone really likes your car, even a guarded parking lot won’t help.

However, there is still no need to talk about the complete safety of the car in a closed parking lot. In an attempt to make as much money as possible, parking lot owners make very small parking spaces. And since the cars are parked almost end to end, the risk of hitting a neighbor is quite high. It is especially difficult for awkward or novice drivers. Theoretically, if you find a fresh scratch or dent on a door or bumper in the morning, you can demand compensation from the parking lot administration, but in practice this is unlikely to succeed. If the area is not monitored from all sides by CCTV cameras, it is unlikely that the culprit will be found. The parking lot administration also usually does not issue a check or receipt for payment for services provided. As a result, it turns out that motorists have no legal grounds to demand compensation for damage caused. Meanwhile, the tariffs of many guarded parking lots are quite affordable.

3. In the garage. Many car enthusiasts dream of having their own garage. It perfectly protects the car from bad weather and intruders. In addition, in the garage you can repair the car, restore order in the interior and, ultimately, organize places to store tires, technical fluids and tools. But the garage also has plenty of disadvantages as a place to store a car. Firstly, garage areas are usually located on the outskirts of cities. Getting to the garage is another task. You don’t get run over every day.Secondly, moisture will certainly accumulate in garages that are not equipped with ventilation. And such conditions contribute to the accelerated development of corrosion and oxidation of wiring connectors. Thirdly, iron gates and several locks are not a panacea for car thieves of all stripes. For professionals with special equipment, opening a garage is not the biggest problem. There are quite a lot of disadvantages. It is not surprising that happy owners of garages quickly begin to use them as places to store household items. Cars usually spend the night at the entrance.

4. In the underground garage. If a garage array cannot be built next to an apartment building, then why not move it underground. The idea is interesting and quite sound, but too expensive to implement. However, new houses are increasingly being built with underground parking. A parking space, of course, is not cheap, but residents who are not burdened with financial difficulties are willing to pay in order to be able to take the elevator directly down to the underground parking lot. An undoubted advantage of underground parking is their protection from criminals. Cameras hung throughout the parking lot and a permit system at entry and exit do not provide a chance to go unnoticed.

But it is important to understand that the underground parking space must be well ventilated and protected from moisture. Otherwise, we get the same effect as in a regular unventilated garage. Although wealthy owners of underground parking spaces are unlikely to encounter corrosion, if only because in 2-3 years they will exchange the car for a new one. If you plan to drive your car for much longer, then you should pay special attention to the ventilation of the parking space.

5. Under a canopy. This method of storing cars is rare in our country. You won’t find stationary awnings in courtyards during the day with fire. Only owners of private houses can build a roof for a car that can easily protect from the sun and precipitation. At the same time, the car, blown from all sides, dries quickly, due to which corrosion processes slow down. In this case, everything is also in order with protection from intruders. Few people dare to enter the territory of a private house, where a four-legged defender is often running. Gradually, awnings are appearing in the territories of private enterprises and parking lots at hypermarkets. But this is nothing more than a drop in the ocean.

Alas, car enthusiasts from large cities do not have to choose a place to store their car at all. I wish I could find some place! In addition, if you approach the problem correctly, the disadvantages of each storage location can be minimized. A good alarm system will help scare off petty crooks. You can protect the body from corrosion by washing it weekly and, at least once a year, treating the body with special compounds. If desired, it is not so difficult to organize ventilation in the garage. And sometimes you can get to the garage in 10-15 minutes. It is enough to buy a bicycle. Fortunately, there will certainly be no problems with storing the latter.
