As one of the world’s largest automakers, the French company Peugeot produces passenger cars, assembles engines, racing models and even bicycles. A distinctive feature of the brand is always its memorable design, good ergonomics and high-quality interior materials.

On the way to your own style

The company owes its existence to one of the Peugeot brothers, Arman, who in 1891 assembled a car and installed an internal combustion engine on it. The cars he designed performed well in racing, and this gave rise to the further development of the brand. In an effort to create the most reliable, simple and cheap car, designer and engineer E. Bugatti is involved in the work. This is how the Bebe Peugeot small car appears, which becomes the best-selling car in France at that time.

  • In 1913, the Goux model sets a new speed record. During the war, the company switches to military production technology, but after its completion, in 1919, the “people’s car” Quadrilette was introduced. Then there was the innovative Type 156 and its subsequent modifica.
  • In 1935, the 402 model marks the beginning of the “luxury” series. The 302 becomes an inexpensive option for the masses, and its sports version will later compete in the 24 Hours of LeMans.
  • During the war years, factories were re-equipped for the needs of Germany, but after the war new developments began and the 203 model, released in 1949, became the standard for a reliable family car. Then there were the very popular 403 and 404 modifications.

New collaborations

By the mid-sixties, the company was facing structural changes. In 1965, it was transformed into the Peugeot S.A. holding, and then active cooperation with Renault began. This leads to the release of the Peugeot 204, a front-wheel drive compact car that comes in many different versions.

In the seventies, the time came for cooperation with Volvo. Integration into the Citroen holding also takes place, and the name changes to Peugeot-Citroen Group P.S.A. The brands are still developing in parallel, and they continue to be competitors. In 1979, the Talbot brand became part of the holding.

Peugeot cars also made their contribution to the history of international rallying, where the 205 and 206 models were especially noted. At the Paris-Dakar rally, the French won four times in a row from 1987 to 1990.

New debuts

In the nineties, the company updated its model range and released dozens of competitive cars. Buyers especially liked the Partner and Peugeot 206, which debuted in 1996 and 1998, respectively.

In 2001, the 307 model was recognized as the best car in the world, and the 307 SS modification received the status of the safest convertible. The Peugeot 1007 mini-car, which the world met in 2004, has become no less safe and just as popular. The 4007 crossover marked Peugeot’s debut in a new segment, and also demonstrated the company’s development trends in the future. In February 2012, sales of the stylish and dynamic Peugeot508 sedan started on the Russian market.
