One of the priority safety rules when driving a car is the condition of glass transparency. Glass fogging most often occurs during the off-season, in winter in relatively wet weather, as well as in summer during heavy rainfall.
The root cause of this phenomenon is due to the difference in temperatures outside and inside the car. In a warmed-up car interior, moist air vapors create condensate, which settles on colder windows. To eliminate such fogging, it is necessary to warm up the windows, and at the same time dry the air in the cabin. Here are some basic recommendations on how to do this:
- As soon as you notice that the car windows have begun to fog up, turn on the window blowing mode, increase the speed of the supplied hot air. Adjust the direction of the airflow with the deflectors so that they are all directed at the windows.
- If there is an air conditioner in the car, the task is easier. Turn it on, and the air in the cabin will become dry within a few minutes, provided that the mode of internal air circulation in an enclosed space is turned off.
- If the car climate control system does not work well enough to solve the problem, that is, it cannot provide a positive effect of warming up and drying inside the cabin, then it is necessary to inspect the cabin filter. It is possible that it has absorbed a large amount of water vapor, and in conditions of high humidity it simply does not have time to dry. Think about the need to replace it with a new filter.
- Car shops sell a wide variety of products that are designed to solve problems with fogging of windows. It can be a special liquid, napkins, spray. When these substances are applied to the glass from the inside, a thin transparent film forms on its surface. Wet vapors are immediately transformed into small droplets that quickly roll off the glass and do not interfere with visibility. There is, of course, the opposite effect, when water vapor settles on the window in the form of a transparent layer. To avoid this, before applying these products, you need to thoroughly wipe and dry the glasses. As soon as you notice that the windows have started to fog up again, repeat this process using anti-foggers.
- The problem of fogging car windows appeared together with cars that had an enclosed interior. Drivers have long figured out how to get rid of this trouble with the help of improvised means. The most common method is to use a mixture of alcohol (9 parts) and glycerin (1 part). The glasses are wiped with this mixture, and moisture does not collect on them. There are several other folk remedies. For example, wiping glass with newspapers (printing ink gives the same effect as using aerosols). Also try to rub the glass with tobacco powder.
- If you want to get rid of the problem of fogging for a long time, then you can resort to the procedure of applying a special film to the windows. Approximately the same film is used for optical devices, motorcycle helmets, etc. However, this film has two disadvantages, relative, of course. Firstly, it is very expensive and not every car enthusiast can afford it. Secondly, gluing it on car windows requires a lot of experience, so you can’t do without the services of a specialist here, which also costs money. In addition, the film is a film, it is a polymer material, therefore it is not very durable. However, if the problem of fogging glasses is a big problem for you, then this tool will be the most effective.
- In winter, or during the rainy season, one way or another, moisture gets into the car interior. When the interior is warmed up, it begins to evaporate and covers the cooled windows. In order for this process not to occur, it is necessary to get rid of excess moisture in advance. Periodically, you should wipe and dry the mats, remove ice from them, and try to get into the car in dry clothes and shoes.
- If you notice that even with light precipitation, moisture penetrates into the interior, carefully inspect the rubber seals. The detached seal not only allows moisture to pass through, but can contribute to the formation of rust on the metal parts of the interior.
- Do not keep wet rags in the cabin that you used to wipe. It is better to put them outside the cabin (trunk, hood) after cleaning.
- To reduce humidity, put a paper bag with dry salt in the cabin. It absorbs moisture well. Of course, this will not completely eliminate the problem, but the glasses will fog up noticeably less.
- It happens that after the repair of the body, the valves designed for ventilation of the car are sealed. In this case, the process of proper circulation of the air flow is disrupted. The trunk and interior, clogged with a large number of things, give the same negative effect. The openings of air conditioners designed for water drainage can also be clogged. These holes should be cleaned and their cleanliness should be constantly monitored.
- If you are doing everything correctly and cannot find the cause of the fogging of the windows, check the cooling system for its tightness. Heated antifreeze vapors, getting into the cabin, settle on the windows. Fix the problem.
- Fogging of the windows often occurs due to the presence of a large number of people inside the car. The air they exhale is warm and humid. All switched-on heating and ventilation systems cannot cope with the removal of moisture. In this case, ask the passengers to talk less.
- If the passengers of your car have consumed alcoholic beverages, then this will also necessarily cause fogging, and very intense. There are simple ways to eliminate this, but it is better to ask your companions not to drink alcohol before the trip. By the way, this can lead to increased attention from the traffic police if you are stopped. If you are engaged in private transportation, then try to pick up noticeably drunk passengers less on the street in cold or wet weather.
- And the easiest way. In case of emergency, opening the window will save you from fogging the windows. It should only be remembered that after such a “purge” it will be more difficult to set up a favorable climate inside the cabin.
Do not ignore our advice. Good visibility from inside the car when driving on a busy road is a guarantee not only for your safety, but also for the safety of passengers!
