A “mermaid” or a “drowned car” is not necessarily a vehicle that sank in a river or found itself in a flood zone. Serious consequences can also be expected for a car caught in heavy rain, especially if the owner forgetfully left it on the street with the windows open.

If the interior of the car is abundantly flooded with water, it is necessary to proceed immediately to eliminate the consequences. Initially, it is required to dry it at least to such an extent that you can sit on the seats, and there would be no puddles under your feet. All possible methods are good: scooping, using hygroscopic materials (rags and dry wipes). It is best to take rubber mats out into the air and let them dry. At the same time, the regular heating system of the machine should be started, setting the recirculation mode with the maximum possible temperature and airflow values. It is best to direct air flows “to the floor”, and in order for moisture to evaporate from the cabin, the windows should be left slightly ajar. Alternatively, you can alternate heating / blowing with ventilation.

Such manipulation will allow you to quickly bring the salon into a satisfactory condition – the very next day it will be possible to “settle in” in a new way. But no more than that. If you do not want to urgently dump a car to some “lucky guy”, then you should continue the diagnosis and eliminate the harmful effects of water.

After the downpour, moisture most likely penetrated into the hidden areas of the interior and body. This is not a disaster, since the bodies of modern vehicles are subjected to catapharesis treatment at the production stage, which reliably protects the parts from corrosion. However, trouble can be expected, for example, from a noise insulation layer, which begins to “burn” from excessive moisture, exuding an unpleasant aroma.

The main problem can be caused by communications laid in secret places – power and control cables. The plugs and connectors used in their installation are prone to oxidation, which cannot but affect the quality of the connections. If a similar fate befell not one wiring, but several at once, the car can really claim a lifelong “disability” with infinitely “buggy” electronic and electrical components.

This should encourage the owner of the car, even despite internal resistance and lack of money, to contact a reliable service organization, where the car can be sorted literally in detail, drying each section with compressed air.

By the way, not only the owner’s intuition can prompt you to visit an auto repair shop, sometimes the car itself gives signals. For example, excessive humidification of the airbags will cause an indicator light on the instrument panel with the inscription “Airbag” or “Airbag SRS”, indicating a malfunction in the airbag system. After such a “reminder”, it will be difficult to postpone the trip to the service station.
