Will the world of electric vehicles change with the new FlashBattery battery?
StoreDot has announced that it has developed a battery that charges in five minutes and allows the car to have a power reserve of almost 500 km.
Batteries are still the biggest drawback of electric vehicles, fundamentally affect the weight of the car, mileage and the ability to use it, taking into account the charging time, and progress in this area is very slow. Although prototypes promising significant improvements appear from time to time, there are still none of them in cars and, until there is, there remains room for skepticism.
Now there is another such example, which one day in the future may significantly advance the production of electric vehicles. StoreDot presented the FlashBattery battery with ultra-fast charging at the Berlin CUBE Tech Fair. Full capacity can be reached within 5 minutes, and at the same time a mileage of up to 480 km is provided without recharging. While battery manufacturers improved only one of the following characteristics — either increased capacity, or charging speed, or battery life — the new technology optimized these three parameters simultaneously.
The details are still a secret, the company only reports that the battery consists of 40 modules, which use a combination of inclined layers of nanomaterials and patented organic compounds. The architecture of the novelty has a stable electrode structure, materials are used for production that are much less flammable and more stable at high temperatures than when using traditional lithium-ion technologies. The batteries do not use graphite, which allegedly interferes with maintaining the fast charging process. The company is now supposedly in Asia (probably in China) looking for a partner to manufacture products, and new batteries may appear in the first production halls within three years.
