You bought a used car and want it to serve you for a long time and without breakdowns. There are consumables that it is advisable to replace immediately after purchase.
There are 2 types of cars:
- Cars that are still under warranty. Such a car was then passed by an official dealer, in confirmation there are all the bills. The service book records the date and mileage when the corresponding items were replaced. Simply put, you can check the owner’s words.
- Cars for which the warranty has long expired. There is no way you can check the history of such a car. In such cars, some consumables need to be replaced immediately after purchase. Before the sale, the owner is in no hurry to invest money in the car and service it. Often, the oil may not be changed for more than 10,000 km.
What needs to be replaced immediately after purchase?
1.Engine oil, gearbox oil, brake fluid, antifreeze or antifreeze.
The condition of all liquids should be checked.
The engine oil should be replaced in any case, even if the owner says that he just changed it. It will only be better for the engine.
The brake fluid can be checked with a tester, which must be purchased at an auto shop. If the tester shows 2 or 3%, then it needs to be replaced.
Antifreeze should be clearly defined in color: red, blue, yellow, green. If it has darkened, or there are clots in it, it must be replaced.
In a manual transmission, the oil changes very rarely, the car can have 150,000-3,000 mileage, and the oil has never changed. After purchase, it is advisable to replace it and pour in good synthetics.
On an automatic transmission, the oil needs to be changed every 50000-60000 km, this is very important. Because the operation of the torque converter machine depends entirely on the quantity and quality of oil. Many dealers say that changing the oil in the automatic transmission is not mandatory, allegedly it is filled in there for the entire service life. And some owners believe in it. If the owner tells you that he did not change the oil in the box, and the mileage is already more than 100-150 thousand km, it is advisable to abandon such a purchase altogether. In any case, you should replace the oil in the automatic transmission immediately after purchase. If there is access to the oil filter, change it immediately with the filter.
2. Filters.
Immediately after purchase, the air filter should be replaced, since the engine power directly depends on it.
3. A timing chain or belt.
If the life of the chain is about 150 thousand km (except for turbocharged engines), and maybe more, then the timing belt needs to be replaced every 60-70 thousand km, complete with rollers. After purchase, it is advisable to replace the timing belt immediately, since you will not be able to check how many kilometers it has already traveled. If the belt breaks, the valves can bend, and this is an expensive engine repair. Chain wear is easier to diagnose, if it makes noise when the engine is running, then most likely you will refuse such a purchase.
4. Battery.
If you buy a car in the warmer months, then you should definitely check the battery using a battery tester. Check the density and electrolyte level. If the battery loses charge quickly, then it will definitely have to be replaced closer to the cold weather.
5. Collapse, tires, brakes.
Check the brake discs and pads, if they are heavily worn, there will be a beating in the steering wheel when braking.
In case of severe wear, replace the rubber and go to the collapse. If you do not do this, the new rubber can wear out quickly, because the corners of the wheels may be set incorrectly. In general, it is advisable to stop by the collapse in any case.
6. Fuel injectors, gasoline filter, candles.
The fuel filter (located in the tank) and the injectors can be cleaned. The procedure is performed at any service station. It is better to replace the candles. Worn-out spark plugs can disable coils, and replacing coils will cost more. After replacing the candles, the engine will start working more smoothly, it is better to pull and the consumption will drop slightly.
By servicing the car, following these 6 points, you will make the car better and yourself calmer. After all, it is easier to replace consumables immediately than to think later when the owner changed them and when you should change them.
