What is the filter used for?
The air contained in the atmosphere is vital for an internal combustion engine. The quality of the formation of the fuel-air mixture and the completeness of its combustion depend on the amount of air entering the engine. If a larger volume of air enters the engine, then a large amount of fuel is required to form the right mixture. This leads to increased energy release, and as a result, increased pressure on the piston, increased power, and temperature.
As the rotation of the crankshaft increases, it becomes increasingly difficult for the air entering the engine to overcome the resistance of the air filter. Based on this, two simple conclusions can be drawn:
- With minimal rotation of the crankshaft, air filling depends on the position of the throttle valve;
- At maximum RPM, when the throttle opening is 100%, the filling is determined by the following factors — the structural features of the intake system, the design of the receiver and its settings, and the capacity of the air filter.
Thus, a zero-resistance filter is used to facilitate the entry of more air into the intake system. Its use is a kind of midpoint between the quality of the incoming air purification and the reduced resistance at the inlet to the intake tract.
A zero-resistance filter. What does it represent.
The filter with zero resistance is made of foam rubber (with large pores) or cotton fiber. A special oil impregnation enveloping the cells of the filter element is an important part of this filter. It provides the necessary filtering.
Unlike a standard air filter, a zero-resistance filter requires constant attention. It is necessary to monitor its condition and maintain it regularly. Depending on the condition of the contamination, it must be rinsed and soaked.
Filters with zero resistance. Their advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages include:
- A slight increase in engine power, while carrying out the necessary work with the exhaust system;
- A « thoroughbred » sound from the engine compartment;
- A more « sporty » view of the space under the hood.
The disadvantages of its installation include such points as:
- Increased engine output;
- Accelerated failure of the mass air flow sensor;
- Difficulty of the content.
Before installing it on a car, it is necessary to think carefully about the expediency of its use on a car.
